Mara June records voice, room tone, harmonium, and small guitars at home in Glasgow before opening the songs to a rotating live band.

Soft Riot preserves the first-take closeness of those home recordings. In performance, the quiet parts stay quiet; the band gathers around them instead of filling every space.
